Chess in Aix-les-Bains, Savoie and the Alps: the independent guide

To play chess in Aix-les-Bains, in Savoie or elsewhere in the Alps, you need to know three things: which clubs are affiliated to the French Chess Federation, which tournaments are being played this season, and where the summer festivals are held. Échecs en Savoie brings this information together, checked at source, along with the history of the great championships played at the foot of the mountains.

Independent editorial site, not affiliated with the Académie d'Échecs d'Aix-les-Bains or any club.

This domain name once hosted the Aix-les-Bains club's website; that is no longer the case. The club now has its own official website: aixlesbainsechecs.org (without a hyphen). To join, find out its opening hours or contact it, that is where to go. This guide takes no registrations and speaks on behalf of no club. Find out more about this guide.

Chess in Aix-les-Bains: what you need to know

Aix-les-Bains, on the shores of Lac du Bourget, is not just a spa town: it is one of the French towns that hosted the most major chess competitions at the start of the century, with two French championships (2003 and 2007) and an individual European championship (2011). Today the town has one FFE-affiliated club, which plays in Nationale 4, and the 2026-2027 Savoie championship is being played in Aix-les-Bains.

Académie d'Échecs d'Aix-les-Bains: an association affiliated to the FFE under number J73075, the only chess club in Aix-les-Bains recorded by the federation. Registered office at 15 avenue d'Annecy, with playing rooms on avenue d'Annecy and boulevard Wilson. Official website: aixlesbainsechecs.org. This guide is independent of it.

To find a club by town, in Aix as elsewhere in France, you can also consult the chess clubs of Aix-les-Bains in the Palais des Échecs directory, which covers the whole country.
